This is such a wonderful time for children as they are developing their individuality and their own personality. Recognizing that every student has a unique, God-given level of artistic talent, our art program is designed to enhance artistic ability as well as an appreciation for art. Our goal is to give students many opportunities to express themselves, be creative, and build their own uniqueness. Each class begins with a scripture that reflects, God’s love and concern for his children. Our art instructors, Dr. Jane Hester and Mrs. Sue Spice, will introduce students to different artists each month ranging from the masters to contemporary artists. Students study the style, medium and life of the artist including the cultural impact of the artist’s works. Students also enjoy attempting to imitate the artist style in their own distinctive way. The study of the elements of art such as color, shape, and texture is also incorporated into art lessons throughout the year. Students’ works are submitted in a variety of community art competitions during the school year and a favorite piece is selected for display at our Arts and Science Showcase in the Spring.
