Our History

Central Day School is part of the Education Ministries of Central Church which also includes Central Learning Center and Central Parents Day Out program. The mission of the Education Ministries is to provide a quality, affordable, Christian education and loving childcare while sharing the love of Christ in a safe, nurturing environment. Our goal is to offer a Christ-centered circle of love and learning for the families of Collierville and the surrounding community.

CDS is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and has earned dual accreditation with the Southern Association of Independent Schools and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SAIS/SACS.)

As Central Day School begins the 2006-2007 school year, we celebrate the twelfth anniversary in the ministry of educating boys and girls in the reality of God’s world. We prayerfully continue to pursue God’s direction and will for the ministry of Central Church and Central Day School, seeking to honor and glorify Him in everything we do.

CDS is located on the campus of Central Church in Collierville which was founded as Central Cumberland Presbyterian in 1896 in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. In 1974, the growing congregation voted to withdraw its membership as part of the Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination, becoming an independent, non-denominational church. As the church’s membership made an eastward progression, so did the church itself, relocating twice before establishing its home in Collierville, an eastern suburb of Memphis. Today the church, pastored by Dr. Ernie Frey, has approximately 3,000 active members with an impact that extends around the world through missions and outreach programs.

Central Day School opened its doors in August of 1995 as an outreach ministry of Central Church in Memphis. At that time, the school was located in the Central Church facilities at the corner of Kirby and Winchester Roads. In August of 2002, the church and school relocated to our current thirty-eight acre campus in Collierville.
